Constipation

There are a few things that you are going to deal with in your lifetime. One of those things is constipation. Most of us just get common constipation, in which we have eaten something that has made our system get off track. In fact, only about 2% of the United States population has a problem with constipation. Although that may not seem like a lot, 2% of the population is more than what you would think. Today we are going to cover a little bit more about constipation so you can get a better understanding of it. Sometimes knowing more about constipation is the best constipation relief, because you can avoid getting it.

First of all, you should note that constipation affects more women than anyone else in the world. The good news is that most cases of constipation are not serious. However, that does not mean that relieving constipation is not a good idea. Before you go looking for different constipation relief methods, you should know for sure what constipation is. This is where you have a hard time making bowel movements, or they happen less frequently than what they should. There is no time range that can be given for how often you should have a bowel movement. That is because it varies a lot from one person to the next. A good rule of thumb is, if you go longer than three days, then you could have constipation. After about three days, it is just going to become more difficult to pass a stool, because they just become large in size.

Relieving constipation is important, but you have to have one of these following symptoms for longer than three months to have constipation. If you have to strain to do a bowel movement 25% of the time, you may have constipation. Also, if your stools are very hard more than 25% of the time, then you may have it as well. Last, but not least, if you have less than two bowel movements a week.

After you know if you have constipation or not, you need to start looking at what could be causing your constipation. For example, not drinking enough water can cause constipation. On top of that, if you do not have enough fiber or not enough exercise, then you can get constipation as well. Also, be aware that eating a large amount of dairy can cause constipation as well. Other things can cause constipation as well, but these are the major things that cause it in most people.

As you can see, it is very important to make sure that you eat right and get out there and be active. You can also see that not as many people are constipated as they think. Having trouble using the bathroom once in a great while is normal. We all have those days. However, if you are having trouble for more than three months, then you could have a problem on your hands. Be sure to talk to your doctor, and find out what he thinks. Only your doctor will be able to tell you if you need to do something about your constipation.
